Baptism
October 29, 2006
I was baptized today. If I had been baptized a little less than a year ago, it might have fallen on my 21st birthday. But God has his own timing (Acts 1:7), so all is good.
For those of you who don’t know what baptism is: It is the formal initiation into the covenant body of believers through the profession of faith to the local church in the name of the triune God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) [Updated 2009-09-10]. The water signifies the washing away of our sins (Acts 22:16).
Not all people who are baptized by water go to heaven, and not all people who go to heaven are baptized by water (Mark 16:16, and also the guy crucified next to Jesus) [Updated 2009-09-10]. But it is a command given to us by the Lord (Matthew 28:19), so we should honor it. Here’s to leading a more godly life and working for the glory of God. Amen.
